Division 03 — Concrete: how to specify products in it
Forming, reinforcing, cast-in-place and precast concrete, underlayments and grout. The product decisions in Division 03 are fewer than in the finish divisions, and each one is harder to change after the pour.
What Division 03 covers
Concrete as a system: formwork and accessories, reinforcing steel and fibers, cast-in-place mixes with their admixtures and curing products, concrete finishing, structural and architectural precast, cementitious underlayments and toppings, and grouting.
Common sections
- 03 11 00 Concrete Forming
- 03 20 00 Concrete Reinforcing
- 03 30 00 Cast-in-Place Concrete
- 03 35 00 Concrete Finishing
- 03 41 00 Precast Structural Concrete
- 03 45 00 Precast Architectural Concrete
- 03 54 16 Hydraulic Cement Underlayment
- 03 60 00 Grouting
What to check before you specify
- 01Admixture and curing-compound compatibility — curing compounds, sealers and the flooring or coating that follows must be approved together, or the floor finish fails.
- 02Moisture and the floor finish — the slab’s moisture-vapor emission and relative-humidity limits set by the flooring manufacturer, and how the underlayment or mitigation product meets them.
- 03Precast finish and samples — architectural precast specified by approved sample and mock-up, with the aggregate, color and finish named.
- 04Reinforcing and corrosion — coating or stainless reinforcing where exposure requires it, with the standard it is made to.
- 05Underlayment and topping performance — compressive strength, thickness range and the finish it is approved under.
- 06Sustainability data — environmental product declarations and supplementary cementitious content where the project requires them.
